Like the rivers that run through the Texas Hill Country, EdenHill Communities is moving forward.
Our Board of Directors supports the entire EdenHill Community to ensure quality and compassion is not just a requirement, but a way of living. Our dedication to faith, heritage, community, comfort, and value is ensured through the distinguished Board of Directors who support EdenHill Communities:
Wendy Carpenter - CEO and Executive Director
I am honored to have been selected to serve as EdenHill’s CEO. To be part of a mission driven organization, with a history of serving seniors for over one hundred years, is a privilege and I look forward with excitement towards the future and the countless opportunities before us.
Kellie Stallings - President
I have been in awe of EdenHill’s services since my husband and I first arrived in New Braunfels in 1988. My father-in-law also benefited from the care received through Eden Heights until his death several years ago, and we were touched by the empathy and support we received from EdenHill staff during that time. I am especially excited about the expansion of the continuum of care offered through EdenHill, particularly for active seniors and for individuals and families who are coping with diseases that impact memory. While senior care is new to me professionally, I believe my background in the non-profit field will provide support and a fresh perspective as the organization plans a strong path into the future.
Joyce Fox - First Vice President
I am so honored to have been asked to serve on the Board of Directors for the Eden Hill Communities. Throughout my career as an RN I have always preferred working with the elderly, Once I received my Masters in Counseling with a specialization in Gerontology, I was introduced to Hospice and Home Health programs and this has been my passion for the last several years. I initiated a home health and hospice program for the Christus system in Corpus Christi. Eventually I had the opportunity to assume the Executive Director position at Hope Hospice in New Braunfels. I worked closely with Eden Home staff and administration to provide hospice services to residents in their facilities. I have always admired the dedication and excellent care our patients received. I look forward to the opportunity to see this non-profit organization grow and continue meeting the needs of the elderly in our community.
Jayne Jochec - Second Vice President & Treasurer
Jayne Jochec is a CPA here in New Braunfels working at the firm her father founded in 1973. Their firm has served clients in our area for so long that “our clients have become our friends”.
Jayne’s father also served on EdenHill’s Board many years ago. He instilled in Jayne the understanding of how important it is to serve the elderly. “They are no less valuable because they’re no longer part of the working world. They have served their country and the community. God has blessed us all with different talents. We need to give back to our community and serve our fellow man.”
Jayne “bleeds orange” and is a dedicated Longhorn! In her spare time she enjoys attending community events, particularly live theatre at our local venues, the Brauntex and Circle Arts Theaters.
Valin Miller - Third Vice President
I am proud to have been asked to serve on the Board of EdenHill Communities. EdenHill has been a part of New Braunfels my entire life. My father was a doctor here for 52 years and during that time, had many patients at what was then Eden Home. He often commented on the quality of the care his patients received and how fortunate we were to have Eden Home in our community. My mother was a resident at the Pinnacle for many years and very much enjoyed living there. While visiting her, I was able to see first hand how friendly and helpful both the residents and staff are. I am happy to have the opportunity to work with the other members of the board to help Eden Hill continue its mission of service to our community.
Rev. Scott Martin - Secretary
I feel honored and blessed to be on the Board of Directors, especially because of its historical connection to the United Church of Christ. I’ve been pastor of Faith U.C.C. in New Braunfels for 13 years and many of my members are residents of EdenHill Communities.
Ann Carr
Ann Carr is a familiar face to many of you here! Ann worked for 9 years with EdenHill including the years of development and opening of The Pinnacle and Healthcare facilities. Her professional career included 26 years in healthcare marketing & management.
Ann states, “Though I retired from EdenHill four years ago, I never quit caring about the organization, residents, and staff. As a Board member, I’ll have the opportunity to promote EdenHill’s mission within the community as well as interact with residents, families, and employees.” Ann sees new opportunities for EdenHill to continue serving the community. “It’s important to balance customer service and hospitality with financial stability. I’m committed to helping EdenHill navigate paths to the future.”
Ann is enjoying her retirement life together with her husband of 5 years, Monroe. They travel, spend time with their families and manage their business, The Casitas at Gruene, vacation rentals at their property on the Guadalupe River.
SuzAnne Cole
I am pleased to have been asked to become a member of the EdenHill Board of Directors. Since we moved permanently to New Braunfels fourteen years ago, I have concentrated my volunteer efforts on the library, serving six years on the library advisory board, three of them as its president. I am now serving on the library foundation board for my fourth and final year. And I will continue to be a member of the Friends of the Library and work in the bookstore. But I am looking forward to new challenges at EdenHill, all the more so as my husband and I are now on the waiting list to become part of the EdenHill community ourselves.
Dr. Filomeno Gonzalez
Dr. Filomeno Gonzalez Jr. earned his Bachelor of Science in Economics at West Point Academy in New York, and his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. Dr. Gonzalez also earned an MBA from the University of Nebraska in Omaha, NE.
Dr. Gonzalez has practiced medicine in New Braunfels for over ten years and plans to continue his passion of providing excellent care and extending preventive rather than reactive medicine. He is driven to make a positive change in healthcare delivery for seniors.
Brien John
As I navigate my own Senior Years, I realize more and more the important part Eden Hill plays in this community. It touches so many lives, from its residents, to its employees, their families and friends, as well as our neighbors dealing with life-changing decisions about the future. I hope my 40 years in corporate America will bring its own set of insights as I serve on the Board of Directors. Eden Hill is a local treasure we must protect and nourish for the benefit of all.
Barbara McHale
Barbara Chambers McHale is a current resident in our Independent Living Apartments. She has a history of volunteering in a variety of capacities here at EdenHill, including serving as the Chair of the Food Committee, as a member of the Resident Council as well as at our Thrift Haus.
“I am proud to serve our EdenHill Community as a member of its Board of Directors. As a resident of the Pinnacle, I hope to bring this current knowledge to supplement my past experiences in business and real estate corporations. I enjoy volunteering within the community to further our way of living as a family of faith, as well as dedication to compassion and comfort. Being part of the EdenHill family is important to me and my desire is to serve our community.”
Richard Warren
EdenHill has accomplished wonderful things for my family. My uncle moved into Assisted Living in 2005 later moved Skilled Nursing Care. His care was exceptional till his passing in 2010. My mother was a charter resident in the Pinnacle. Later in 2020 she moved to rehab and later Skilled Nursing Care. I can’t say enough good things about the quality of her care she received till her passing this year. Now, I am honored to give my time and talent to EdenHill Communities serving on the Board of Directors.
Maureen Watson
Maureen Watson joins our board having retired as a Captain in the Seguin Police Department with over 25 years of service.
Maureen has board experience with several not-for profits. She was a founding Board Member of the Guadalupe Children’s Advocacy Center in Seguin and worked extensively with the Alamo Area Council of Governments. As a Board member, she reviewed Federal and State grants and is very familiar with the grant process and the opportunities for fund raising.
“With my experience both as a public servant and a former board member,
I will be able to serve the EdenHill Community well. I am especially driven to help the Community grow and thrive because my parents have lived at the Pinnacle since its opening. The care and concern I have seen exhibited by the administration and staff has impressed me. I would like to help continue that momentum towards a bright future for all.”
Kevin Wartsbaugh
It is my privilege to serve on the Board of Directors for EdenHill. I am fortunate to be involved in the community of New Braunfels and appreciate organizations that put people first. EdenHill impacts the lives of many and their mission and values come through each and every day.
Rev. Phil Hodson
Phil Hodson began his new role in the South Central Conference as the Conference Minister on July 15, 2022. He sees his role in the church as a ‘fixer’ – he listens for what God has called him to.
“I’ve simply worked hard and endeavored to bloom where I’ve been planted. Because of wise mentors – my grandfather, a former bishop, and especially Edith Guffey – and angels unaware like Alan Miller, I am blessed to be in ministry and offer my gifts and talents to the United Church of Christ.”
Don Epps
I am a semi-retired chemical engineer with 40 years of experience in the industry. Since moving to New Braunfels in 2013, I have been actively volunteering my time with various organizations such as the Texas Master Naturalists and the Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country, where I serve as treasurer on their respective boards. My greatest achievement has been the construction of The Carolyn and Everett Deschner Learning Center at the museum, which aims to get young people interested in the outdoors and learning about history.
I have had personal experience with Eden Hill, a retirement community in the area, as my mother lived there for seven years. My background in engineering and finance may be useful in assisting the community going forward. Overall, I value staying active and giving back to my community.
