- Every year, one in three adults over age 64 falls, which puts them at a higher risk for falling again.
- Improve your balance and strength with exercise programs such as a Matter of Balance, Tai Chi, or Enhance Fitness.
- Reduce the amount of tripping hazards present in your home – cords, boxes, shoes, clutter, etc.
- Install grab bars in and beside the tub/shower and next to the toilet.
- Use nonslip mats or appliques in the tub/shower to prevent slipping.
- Add railings on both sides of stairways.
- Add nightlights throughout the living area and improve the lighting in rooms and hallways.
- Avoid throw rugs or use non-skid mats or tape.
- Have eyes checked by an eye doctor at least once a year.
- Ask doctor or pharmacist to review medications to identify those that may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
