  1. Every year, one in three adults over age 64 falls, which puts them at a higher risk for falling again.
  2. Improve your balance and strength with exercise programs such as a Matter of Balance, Tai Chi, or Enhance Fitness.
  3. Reduce the amount of tripping hazards present in your home – cords, boxes, shoes, clutter, etc.
  4. Install grab bars in and beside the tub/shower and next to the toilet.
  5. Use nonslip mats or appliques in the tub/shower to prevent slipping.
  6. Add railings on both sides of stairways.
  7. Add nightlights throughout the living area and improve the lighting in rooms and hallways.
  8. Avoid throw rugs or use non-skid mats or tape.
  9. Have eyes checked by an eye doctor at least once a year.
  10. Ask doctor or pharmacist to review medications to identify those that may cause dizziness or drowsiness.
