This prestigious award celebrates individuals who go above and beyond, inspiring others with their exceptional contributions. Herb’s unwavering commitment to serving his community and enriching the lives of others has made him deserving of this esteemed honor.

A Lifetime of Dedication

Herb Skoog’s dedication to New Braunfels is evident through numerous accomplishments and lifelong volunteerism. Recognized as a leader and visionary, Herb was inducted into the Hall of Honor by the New Braunfels Chamber in 1982 for his pivotal role in shaping the city. In 2013, he was awarded the Citizen of the Year by the city of New Braunfels in recognition of his exceptional volunteer work. Herb’s passion for preserving local history led him to write and publish the renowned book, “New Braunfels Sesquicentennial Minutes,” a valuable resource for researchers interested in the heritage of New Braunfels and Comal County.

For over five decades, Herb has actively served the Wurstfest Association, dedicating his time and talents to the organization. Affectionately known as the “Father of Wurstfest,” Herb’s commitment has played a significant role in the success and growth of this cherished community event. Furthermore, Herb’s impact extended to the airwaves as he served as the owner/operator of the local radio station, earning him the title “The Voice of New Braunfels.” Even in retirement, Herb continued to utilize his skills to benefit others, particularly his fellow residents at EdenHill Communities.

Enriching Lives at EdenHill

Herb’s unwavering commitment to service continued within the walls of EdenHill Communities. During the challenging times of the COVID-19 lockdown, Herb played a vital role in establishing EdenHill’s Community TV Broadcasts. Through engaging interviews with residents and team members, Herb helped foster a sense of community and connection during the isolation. He actively contributed to the EdenHill Newsletter, sharing local history and heritage stories, while also lending his voice and support to fundraising efforts as a guest speaker in promotional videos. Herb’s involvement in the resident-led “Reader’s Theatre” group and his role as a master of ceremonies have brought joy and entertainment to many.

On May 22nd, Herb Skoog was presented with the prestigious Inspirational Senior Texan award at the annual LeadingAge Texas Conference. Surrounded by his family and friends, Herb accepted this well-deserved honor, highlighting his exceptional spirit of service and dedication to improving the lives of others.
