RN Supervisor (7P-7A) Job Description

Department: Nursing Reports To: Director of Nursing FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

Directly responsible for the adequate supervision of nursing personnel at EdenHill Communities by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans and organizes activities related to specified clinical services to ensure patient needs are met in accordance with professional standards of medical and nursing care and hospital or center administrative procedures.
  • Implements and evaluates methods to ensure effective and efficient use of staff, facilities, equipment, and other resources while maintaining patient care standards.
  • Implements and coordinates quality assurance audits, utilization review, and assists with discharge planning.
  • Consults with nurse managers and medical staff on patient care or nursing problems and interpretation of EdenHill Communities policies to ensure patient needs are met.
  • Visits units to observe procedures and make appropriate suggestions and recommendations for improving techniques, policies, and procedures.
  • Follow proper procedure/protocol in case of a death of a resident.
  • Manages staffing needs of the facility while on duty.
  • Routinely rounds on units to ensure resident care being conducted per regulation and EdenHill policy.
  • Must consistently display and model the EdenHill Spirit hospitality behavior models.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Manages 2-3 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 20+ employees on the Unit. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Qualifications

    Education and/or Experience

    Graduate of a state-approved school of Registered Nursing and is currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Texas State Board.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    Computer Skills

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Graduate of a state-approved school of Registered Nursing and is currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Texas State Board.

    Other Skills and Abilities

  • Alertness and skill in recognizing and identifying signs and symptoms, especially those found commonly in geriatric nursing.
  • Have a genuine interest in geriatric nursing.
