In honor of Older Americans Month, we come together as a nation to celebrate the valuable contributions that older adults bring to our communities, both here at EdenHill and in the wider New Braunfels community.
Unfortunately, many people are unaware of the extraordinary and uplifting aspects of how older adults in our community live their lives. While some perceive aging as a time of decline, marked by limitations and restrictions, at EdenHill, we defy such stereotypes every day. Our residents embody the spirit of “Aging Unbound,” the theme for Older Americans Month in 2023.
Our devoted staff, including administrators, professional caregivers, culinary team, and housekeeping services, utilize their expertise and unwavering commitment to providing quality care. They strive to create and support experiences that enhance the overall quality of life for our residents. Many older adults find it easier to pursue lifelong passions such as spending time with family, engaging in community service, learning, teaching, and volunteering. Our team members ensure that our residents continue to enjoy these fulfilling experiences.
We consider it an honor to support families by delivering excellent care and support that enables our residents to thrive. As a nonprofit organization, our primary focus is on people. Our mission to serve is the driving force behind everything we do.
It is our wish, too, that the same excellent care we deliver here at EdenHill is available to every older adult who needs it. Our mission-driven organization receives support from various sources, including federally funded programs, local grant opportunities, and individual donors. We actively track and apply for additional programs that are crucial to our ability to serve older adults. However, funding can be unpredictable, and support is not always guaranteed, partly due to the fragmented and inefficient approach our country takes in this regard. It is worth noting that over 25 federal agencies engage in policy activities that directly impact older people. While these agencies have elements of robust aging policies, there are redundancies and gaps in the numerous programs they administer.
As members of LeadingAge, the national association of mission-driven aging services providers, we support the call for a White House Office on Aging Policy. Such an office would ensure focused and effective coordination of the various federal programs that serve the rapidly aging population in the United States.
To adequately serve all eligible adults in need of care or services, significant attention, and urgent action are required. It is crucial for our state and federal policymakers to respond promptly.
We express our gratitude to all our residents and their families for entrusting us with their care—a responsibility that we greatly value.
