EDENHILL COMMUNITIES ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT DONATION DEPOT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
EdenHill Communities, Terry Jackson
New Braunfels, May 22, 2024 — EdenHill Communities has entered into a partnership with Project
MEND to serve as Comal County’s county-wide donation site for gently used medical equipment. Project
MEND refurbishes used durable medical equipment (DME) and distributes it to individuals in need.
On Saturday, June 15th, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, EdenHill will have a kick-off donation event featuring coffee
and food trucks, games, and music. Individuals can donate medical equipment they no longer use as well
as enjoy the festivities.
Items most frequently needed are wheelchairs, rollator walkers, tub transfer benches, power
wheelchairs and home hospital beds. Project MEND will evaluate the equipment for its safe use,
professionally refurbish and sanitize it to State standards, and once available, distribute the equipment
to individuals who have requested the equipment.
In 2023, Project MEND received a grant from the McKenna Foundation to help increase the number of
individuals served in Comal County. Although Project MEND is based in San Antonio, their service area
includes New Braunfels and surrounding areas.
Project MEND needed a partner site in New Braunfels to serve as a donation depot, as hauling
equipment to San Antonio proved to be too cumbersome for many folks in the New Braunfels area.
Wendy Carpenter, CEO of EdenHill Communities states, “It made perfect sense to partner with Project
MEND to better meet the needs of the New Braunfels area. By offering our community as a convenient
drop-off location, we hope to receive more donations, enabling Project MEND to serve more
individuals.”
Project MEND CEO, Cathy Valdez states, “We’re so excited to be holding our very first medical
equipment collection drive in New Braunfels with our partner EdenHill Communities! We hope that it
will be the first of many more to come in the future as we expand our services to help meet the needs of
the community in Comal County.”
For those in Comal County who may need medical equipment from Project MEND, the process is easy.
Individuals must have a prescription or letter of medical necessity from their physician. Once the
prescription is ready, individuals can request the items online at projectmend.org, or call Project MEND
directly at 210-223-6363. A caseworker will follow up to help complete the process.
